Located in the centre of
Murska Sobota, the new library building was to hold several
collections: literature, monographs, periodicals and materials
of regional importance, all with different levels of accessibility.
The project proposed a scheme with a public vertical core,
dividing the floor plan into private (staff offices) and more
public areas (access to books, reading places). More guarded
collections would be stored further from the core on each
floor and higher up from the entrance point. The main volume
is characterised by two elements: a glazed northern facade
provides ample natural light while southern facade and the
roof are enveloped in an "open book": a sheath of metal panels,
printed with various texts, protects the volume like the covers
protect the contents of a book. |
