The aim of the project
was to provide office space for a small company in a predominately
natural environment. The L-shaped site with an existing building
in the southeast corner is gently sloped to the west; in the
north, it continues into a wooded area. The new structure
is divided according to function: the existing building is
renovated and enlarged, housing various programmes with customer
access and secondary spaces. Oriented east - west, it is shaped
like a uniform dark box behind a large wall on the south side
which serves as a barrier as well as an information board
with the company sign discreetly embedded into its surface.
Behind, the offices volume is a north - south oriented pavilion
with an open plan- form. The two concrete horizontal slabs
are pierced by randomly positioned slanted steel columns filled
with concrete, thus providing adequate earthquake safety as
well as a dialogue with adjacent woods. The shape of dynamic
continuous glass sheath follows the functional scheme, thus
surrounding the workplace with a natural environment.
