Exceptional concentration of cultural heritage, location at the urban navel of Ljubljana and exposure in every sense are the elements of the project - generally considered unrealizable and probably also untouchable. At the behest of daring developer and regarding the currently possible program change, we developed a daring composition which takes away the building's current alienation. Currently, the building at a major square houses a pharmacy on the ground floor with administrative health care programs at the back and on the upper floors. Renovation was conceived as a composition exercise, with sets up a quality department store in the principal volume, with entrance and public areas of a quality apartment house at the back. Apartments themselves are located in a volume limited by the allowed expansion volume. The existing volume is renovated with respect of its key elements (facade in its entirety and vertical communication elements within). Apartment program on the roof is housed in a dynamic volume which deviates from all surrounding formal elements. We know that dramatic stories took place next to Ljubljanica River -as in France Prešeren's ballad, where the Water Man took reckless belle Urška with him. So who knows? Perhaps here a dragon* leaped up to the castle from the roof...
